Handwoven Kauna Grass Bag
This unique shopping bag has been handcrafted in an eco-friendly manner from water reed grass. This form of grass is found in abundance in the North East of India, where it is often referred to by its local name, Kauna.
The bag is woven by interlacing the stalks with jute threads using basic tools and then transformed into bags by the women of the Meitei community of Manipur. This bag features weaves that are extremely fine and sophisticated. They are reinforced with extra strips for strength. A kauna bag is long lasting and suitable for rough use as well.
